New Month, New Outlook
The end of June presented some obstacles for the Alumbaugh Racing Team.  On the way to US 36 Raceway a bearing went out on a trailer wheel causing an unexpected pit stop to make repairs before the night of racing could begin.  Luck didn't get any better in the A-Main where the brakes went out on the 360 sprinter forcing Austin to watch the finish from the infield with a 15th finishing spot.

The McMillen/Hockett Memorial at Lake Ozark Speedway attracted a stellar field of 360's.  Austin raced the fifth heat to finish fourth.  The finish of the heat was Travis Rilat, Kyle Hirst, Josh Fisher, AUSTIN ALUMBAUGH, Shane Stewart, Mark Shirshekan, Randy Martin, and Cody Baker.  Could have been the front rows of an A-Main most races.  The passing points put Austin in the second B-Main where he finished 5th.

July starts off at LA Raceway on the 2nd.  Austin has made the top 5 in both his appearances at LA in 2010.  Saturday, July 3rd the team returns to 24 Raceway in Moberly for the Whitehead Memorial.  Alumbaugh's last appearance at the Moberly high banks awarded him a win in the Gary Scott Memorial.

Lapped Traffic Still Gets in My Hair
The Bulldog Racing Engines 360 had a good night at LA Raceway. Starting outside the front row for the 20 lap A-Main put Alumbaugh into the lead at the drop of the green flag.  Austin held down the front spot for 15 laps despite two early cautions.  Lapped traffic allowed Jonathan Cornell to slip below in the turn to go on and win the event.  The heated battle continued to the checkered flag between the two top runners.

"I wished I had tried more lanes while out front.  The crew did a awesome job setting up the car for tonight's feature.  The car was really good and I felt comfortable." commented Alumbaugh.

With an identical starting spot in the 305 feature, outside the front row, Austin chased Mitchell Moore to the white flag.  With the white flag in the air, Alumbaugh coasted to a stop at the exit of turn four with a broken gearbox forcing the team to a 12th place finish.  The 305 did find winners' circle in the second heat race of the night.

Top 5 Finish at the "Tribute to Jesse"
Alumbaugh Racing collected a third place finish Sunday, May 30th at XX Speedway in California, MO.  The XXX Chassis sprinter started in the sixth starting spot and worked well on the California, MO oval.  After dropping back a position on the start, Austin moved up to fifth on lap three chasing front runners Cornell, Jones, Blank, and Potter.  Using the 6th lap restart, another position was gained to put the #33 into fourth behind Blank.  Alumbaugh made a pass on Jonathan Cornell on lap 17 to claim the third running spot while Tyler Blank was out front leading the field.  Lap 21 saw the final caution of the night when Blank made contact with another car allowing Adam Jones to become the new race leader.  Sitting behind Jones in second on the restart put the Alumbaugh Heating and Cooling Sprinter within striking distance of a win.  Current Winged Outlaw Warriors' point leader, Eric Todd, had other plans and slipped by Austin on the 23rd circuit to claim second.  The top 5 finishers in the 25 lapper were Adam Jones, Eric Todd, Austin Alumbaugh, Brad Graham, and Evan Martin.

2010 Opener Highlights
First Race, First Heat, First Checkered Flag sums up the opening night in the 305 sprint.  Austin started the first heat on the pole next to Melody Simpson and opened up a 12 car lead before the yellow came out with two laps to go.  On the restart Alumbaugh again took charge and led the field to the checkered flag.  The passing points from the 305 format set the honorary car owner for the night, Keri Brown's BRE Sprinter, in the second row for the 20 lap A-Main.  As cars were signaled for a parade lap, the throttle linkage hung up forcing Austin to stall the car on the backstretch forcing a DNF and 20th finishing spot.

In 360 sprint action, Austin took runner-up in the first heat behind Rusty Potter after starting in the third row with a field of heavy hitters.  Alumbaugh played the Sprint Car Stud Game to determine his starting spot in the A-Main.  A pair of deuces put him in the fourth starting spot.  However, Rusty Potter experienced an engine problems allowing Austin to start outside front row for the 20 lap finale.  "The Man of Steel" chased leader, Tyler Blank for the first four laps before being overtaken by Eric Todd.  On lap 15, Austin regained second for a lap only to give it up on lap 16 to eventual race winner Jonathan Cornell.  The BRE Sprinter was a little to tight of setup for the restart with four laps remaining.  Josh Fisher was able to slip around Alumbaugh on the restart giving the Alumbaugh Racing a fourth place finish in the first outing of 2010.

Alumbaugh Named Winged Outlaw Rookie of the Year
Austin Alumbaugh, The Man of Steel, had his strength tested during the 2009 racing season.  After a December 2008 fire destroyed his racing shop and all equipment, it was doubtful that Austin would be behind the wheel of a sprint car for the upcoming season.  Plans were being made to pack his bags and wrench for Danny Lasoski on the World of Outlaw tour for a year.  Family and friends rallied to enable Austin to field a 360 and 305 sprinter for 2009.

The highlight of the season was being named 2009 Winged Outlaw Warriors Rookie of the Year.  Alumbaugh competed in all fifteen WOW events for the season and qualified for fourteen feature events.  In route to a third place finish in points, Austin had three top five finishes and five top ten’s.  24 Raceway provided “The Man of Steel” two second place finishes with the traveling 360 sprinter.

Austin drove Michael Brown’s 305 sprint car to a feature win at Valley Speedway in mid-August.  The twenty-two year old Higginsville driver recorded a second place finish in the 305 class at the Lake Ozark Speedway Nationals during the Labor Day weekend.
